Our riesling endured 3 weeks of rain. It did well. Botrytis will be a feature of this wine. Fact.
Tell us what you do in 50 words or less.
I make wine for our family owned vineyard in North Canterbury. My days are split between growing the wine in the vineyard, making the wine at the winery, and meeting our customers.
Why is your vineyard called Black Estate?
The original eight-hectare vineyard was planted by Russell and Cumiko Black in 1994. We purchased this vineyard in 2007. We now farm 24 hectares of vines from three hillside vineyards and grow riesling, chardonnay, and pinot noir.
What do you love the most about North Canterbury?
Good people, the distinct four seasons, the food, diverse and interesting soils, and the shape of the place.
Red or white?
All of them.
What was the last thing you got from Gubb & Mackie and why did you choose it?
The Triumph Artillery jacket. Useful, hard wearing, and stylish. I like wool.
